Here’s a fair assessment of a dozen out-dated technology terms. Sadly, the term I coined back in 1997, ASP (that’s #5 on the list), is out. Though “cloud computing” is a much better way of describing the idea. At least we’re no longer talking about Moore’s law and asserting that “the network is the computer.” Wait! we still are!
12 Words You Can Never Say in the Office is an entertaining read. And while we can debate about whether we should have kilobytes, SONET, or mainframe on the list; there is one addition that really should be here. And no, it’s not designing websites using well-padded tables and lots of <h1> and other HTML basics.
It’s “click here.”
If intranet is outdated, then so should be the pedantic approach to web sites in which we tell people that there is a link that they can access if they just figure out this whole hypertext thing and click here.
Addendum:
It turns out that this article originally came from Carolyn Duffy Marsan at Network World. It figures that something that accurate had to come from the trade press…and not some junior joe. For access to the original article, click here.
